Atlanta Havoc Sign Veteran Defensive Back Joe Powell

The Atlanta Havoc have announced the signing of veteran arena football defensive back Joe Powell. He has played with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, Cleveland Gladiators and also spent time with the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills.

Powell was named the PIFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 when he was with the Steelhawks. He recorded 11 interceptions that season and was named the Defensive Player of the Week twice.

In 2016, Powell signed with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League (AFL). During his stint in Cleveland, Powell recorded 30 tackles and five interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns.

He now joins a Havoc expansion team that has already signed so many superstar players such as Ryan McDaniel, Damien Fleming, Malachi Jones and more. Atlanta will kick off their inaugural season in the American Arena League (AAL) on March 17 when they host the Florida Tarpons.

Former Soul DL Jake Metz Signs with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Philadelphia Soul defensive lineman Jake Metz. Metz led the Arena Football League with seven sacks in 2016.

He was also a big part of the team’s win in ArenaBowl XXIX, stripping Arizona Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila of the football when the Rattlers were making a comeback in the game. The Soul would go on to win their second title in franchise history.

Metz, along with Soul teammate Darius Reynolds, worked out for the Eagles Monday after taking the weekend off to celebrate their ArenaBowl XXIX win. Metz was drafted by the Qingdao Clipper of the Chinese Arena Football League in the inaugural CAFL Draft back on June 10.

He is also the second Arena Football League player to be signed by an NFL team. Cleveland Gladiators defensive back Joe Powell signed with the New York Giants a few weeks ago. The NFL season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Darius Reynolds to Work Out for Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Soul wide receiver Darius Reynolds will be playing with his team in ArenaBowl XXIX against the Arizona Rattlers at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ Friday night. After the game, he will be taking a step forward in his career.

Sources say that Reynolds will try out for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. Reynolds has caught 112 passes for 1,447 yards and 38 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a bobbling catch to give the Soul the win in the American Conference Championship game against the Jacksonville Sharks.

If he is signed, he will be the second Arena Football League player signed by the Eagles. Cleveland Gladiators DB Joe Powell, who officially signed with the New York Giants last week, signed with the Eagles earlier this season. They cut him soon after and he returned to Cleveland.

The Eagles kick off their 2016 NFL season on Sept. 11 when they host the Cleveland Browns.
