Beijing Lions Beat Guangzhou Power to Complete Perfect Regular Season

The Guangzhou Power faced off against the Beijing Lions in Super Series V in Shenzhen on Saturday. The Lions were looking to finish the season 5-0 while Guangzhou were looking to finish above .500.

Beijing scored first when quarterback Luke Collis found Erwin Sennett Wu for a touchdown. Guangzhou answered back when quarterback JJ Raterink found Lavasier Tuinei for a touchdown. The extra point was no good, so Beijing held a 7-6 lead.

Collis found James Romain wide open in the end zone to give Beijing a 14-6 lead. After a kickoff return touchdown from Romain and a touchdown pass to Collin Taylor, the Lions held a 28-13 lead. After a turnover by Guangzhou and a touchdown from Beijing, they held a 34-13 lead.

The Power made a comeback, however. They scored to make the score 34-19 at halftime. On the first drive of the second half, Raterink found Tuinei for another touchdown and it was a 34-26 game just like that.

Beijing then pulled away again, this time for good. After a touchdown to make the score 41-26, Romain intercepted an Alex Carder pass at the goal line. The Lions would convert on a touchdown to Taylor from Chris Dieker. That made the score 48-26.

Guangzhou never made the comeback and Beijing won the game by a final score of 55-32. They finish the regular season a perfect 5-0 and will face the Qingdao Clipper in China Bowl I on Nov. 6. The Power finish the season 2-3 and will face off against the Shanghai Skywalkers in the #3 vs #4 game on Nov. 5.

Beijing Lions Clinch Spot in China Bowl I

The Beijing Lions have clinched a spot in the China Bowl with one Super Series left. The Lions are the only undefeated team left in the China Arena Football League at 4-0 on the season. The team is coached under Clint Dolziel, who took the Philadelphia Soul to a win in ArenaBowl XXIX back in August.

The Lions are led by two quarterbacks in Luke Collis and Chris Dieker. They also have two well-played wide receivers in Collin Taylor and Erwin Sennett Wu. They also have a key player on defense who helped the Soul win the ArenaBowl in James Romain.

Now, they have nothing to do but await their opponent in the inaugural China Bowl. The game will be played in Shanghai in Nov. 6.

6. Dalian Dragon Kings

The Dragon Kings are just god awful. They have gotten worse and worse in each of their games. After competing in the first three quarters of their first two games, they couldn’t even get a first down until halftime of their 40-7 loss to the Power.

5. Shenzhen Naja

While their losing streak is only at two, the Naja have lost two in a row after winning their opening game. They’ve seemed to have lost their touch. They’ve been less competitive as each game has gone on. Their loss to the Skywalkers was a 13-point loss.

4. Guangzhou Power

The Power lost their first two games in games they were very close in throughout most of the game. They finally got a win by beating the Dragon Kings. While that’s not a statement win for Guangzhou, it’s a win that shows what the Power can really do.

The Super Skywalkers are back. They’ve played well in all three games and could easily be the only 3-0 team in the league had their two-point conversion had worked in their favor against Beijing in Super Series I.

2. Qingdao Clipper

The Clipper finally fell against Beijing, but that can be put on the offense. Their defense is still the best in the league. They showed that in their first two games.

1. Beijing Lions

At 3-0, the Lions have shown that they’re the best team in the league. They have a great offense that has two quarterbacks that can lead them to scoring drives. They also have two great receivers in Collin Taylor and Erwin Sennett Wu, possibly the most explosive Chinese player this season. Defensive back James Romain has been a versatile player, playing both offense and defense well.

CAFL Super Series III Preview

Shenzhen Naja vs Shanghai Skywalkers

Both teams have played in close games in the past two Super Series. Shanghai fell short to the Beijing Lions in Super Series I before knocking off the Guangzhou Power in Super Series II. Shenzhen dominated the Dalian Dragon Kings in Super Series I, but fell to the Lions in Super Series II. Shenzhen has two great quarterbacks while Shanghai has a great defense. Whichever side plays stronger in the game will win.

Guangzhou Power vs Dalian Dragon Kings

This game features the last two winless teams. The Power have played well in their first two games, losing by just a combined 16 points. The Dragon Kings have been able to keep it close, but then the fourth quarter comes around and they deteriorate. Guangzhou has the edge in this game as they have played better football than Dalian. Nonetheless, whichever team loses this game can kiss their goals at winning the China Bowl goodbye.

Qingdao Clipper vs Beijing Lions

There are two undefeated teams left, and they’ll face off in Super Series III. The Clipper have the strongest defense in the CAFL thus far. They’ll have their hands full with the Lions offense. Beijing has two great quarterbacks in Luke Collis and Chris Dieker who can make big plays. They also have two great wide receivers in Collin Taylor and Erwin Sennett Wu. It will be an exciting game and one team will remain the lone undefeated team when it’s all said and done.
