Steelhawks Whomp on Wolfpack, 66-25

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks and Dayton Wolfpack squared off at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA on Sunday afternoon. The Wolfpack were beginning their long road playing of playing all games on the road.

The Steelhawks fumbled the opening kickoff and Tyler Hickins recovered it in the end zone for a Wolfpack touchdown. On the Steelhawks first offensive play, which started from the one yard line, Darius Prince caught a pass, broke a tackle and took it all the way. The extra point gave Lehigh Valley the 7-6 lead.

The Wolfpack would fumble the ball and Tommy Hoover would scoop and score to give Lehigh Valley a 14-6 lead. A Chris Brumford deep pass to Brian Robinson to close the gap to 14-12.

After running back Rustin Mayorga fumbled the football and Dayton recovered, a long Wolfpack drive ended in an interception. The Steelhawks led 14-12 after one.

The Steelhawks would expand their lead with a touchdown pass to Brandon Renford, the team’s all-time leading receiver. After both teams scored touchdowns, a Prince touchdown as time expired in the first half gave Lehigh Valley a 35-18 lead at the break.

First half turnovers and penalties all throughout the game proved costly for the Wolfpack. The Steelhawks would go on to win the game by a final score of 66-25. The Steelhawks will face the High Country Grizzlies. Dayton will travel to Mexico to take on the Monterrey Steel.
